Moondog Labs was founded to develop exciting new tools for creative filmmakers and photographers.  We have decades of experience in design for mobile imaging, photography, motion capture, projection systems and displays – and are excited to apply that knowledge to make specialty lenses for people who appreciate a combination of technical quality and artistry.

Scott Cahall is the technical and creative force behind Moondog Labs.  A lens designer and optical engineer, he has spent much of his career developing film & digital cameras, consumer and professional-grade projectors, mobile phone cameras, motion picture film scanners, 3-D machine vision systems, and heads-up & near-eye displays at companies like Corning Precision Lens, Kodak, and Jenoptik.  In 2007, Scott founded Moondog Optics, an optical/mechanical design house serving small and large companies around the world.  He has been a key contributor to projects featured in Nature, listed as a “Must-Have Product” in Popular Science, and honored as one of the “50 Best Inventions of the Year” by Time, and holds 17 U.S. patents.

Julie Gerstenberger manages the business side of Moondog Labs.  Early in her career as an optical engineer at Kodak, Julie developed digital and mobile phone cameras, projection systems, digital cinematography cameras, and a wide array of printing, defense and medical equipment; she holds four U.S. patents.  She moved into management roles in the optics division and led Kodak’s corporate engineering division, including engineering, image science, strategic alliances, venture capital, and project management teams supporting worldwide research and product development.

Moondog Labs is proud to be based in Rochester, New York, the home of innovation in optics, photography and filmmaking since the 1800s. We are located along the beautiful Erie Canal at 30 Liftbridge Lane East, Suite 210; Fairport, NY 14450.
